Ashraf Sehrai advocates ‘Solid Unity’ among resistance leadership

Stressing for “solid” unity in the rank and file of the separatist leadership, newly elected Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai (in pic) has said difference of opinion is a bliss in Islam, but the difference should not lead to confrontation.
Speaking during a seminar organised by the J&K High Court Bar Association to observe the death anniversary of Bar lawyer advocate Jaleel Andrabi, Sehrai recently advocated for a “solid” unity while describing the present unity among the separatist leadership as “fractured”. This was Sehrai’s first speech at a public platform since becoming the TeH chief and his son joining militancy.
“We need a broad-based unity in rank and file to pursue the cause of freedom. However, while pursuing the cause for realisation of right to self-determination we must not shy away from the principled foundations of Islam,” Sehrai said in his address to the seminar titled – “The right of self-determination & persistent human rights violations in Kashmir”.
“We have to strategise the things on proper application of mind and display of political wisdom,” he said while suggesting that “it is better to forge a unity with a purpose and for a cause” in light of 1993 Hurriyat constitution.
“The fact is that not only the leaders are giving sacrifices, but it is the common man who is also giving sacrifices and these sacrifices are supreme and above all other considerations,” he added.
